Morris Island Lighthouse

Located at the entrance to Charleston Harbor is the historic Morris Island Lighthouse. Due to its unique architecture and location, it is one of the most iconic lighthouses in the United States. Originally constructed in 1767 to assist with harbor navigation, it was later reinforced with brick and equipped with more powerful lights. Today, the lighthouse stands 161 feet tall—making it one of the tallest in the country—and its lights can be seen from up to 20 miles out to sea.
